The Tier List Club at Murray GSP has been one of the most popular clubs this summer. Led by RA Jacob, each Thursday afternoon, scholars had the opportunity to express their opinions on how they rank various topics. The topics so far have been; fast food, candy, disney pixar movies, and disney princesses. In a room full of 17 year olds, it is safe to say these topics got heated. Scholars fought for their opinions on rankings, giving mini speeches defending these choices.
The top tier in the list is S tier, followed by tiers A-F. S tier is the best of the best, so the arguments got very intense when defending “S-Tier” caliber choices. After everyone voiced their opinions, it was time to vote. Jacob would instruct scholars to raise their hand for the tier they felt was most fitting. Whatever the majority was, that’s what tier the option went into. This left many angry scholars as they did not agree the item was deserving of the ranking it received.
Most things were very arguable between scholars and there was a lot of disagreement. However, there were some near unanimous decisions. For example, most everyone agreed that Reece’s are a candy worthy of S tier. On the contrary, there were some choices that were completely split. An example of this is the candy Almond Joys. Scholars either argued that this was a S tier choice or a F tier choice. They had to come to an agreement to settle in the middle with C Tier.
Situations like this made scholars work together to pick the best choice for the entire group, even if you personally disagree with it. This club has been very fun for scholars, and also taught them to be able to compromise.
