Here at Murray GSP, Dr. Iin Hadayani teaches the Agribusiness & Biotechnology focus area.
Today in Dr. Iin’s class, scholars got to experience what it is like to be in a college course. They were visited by Dr. Ken Sulvic, a statistics professor, and discussed the basic ideas in elementary statistics and how they are used in agriculture and real life. Dr. Ken presented the scholars with a great example of a college statistics course with not only the content discussed but also the speed at which he taught it.
Sulvic covered the introductory ideas; standard deviation, measuring spread, the empirical rule, normal curves, Z-scores, and probability. He related each topic to a real life situation. Examples of this are how to test the effectiveness of new drugs using Z-scores and using standard deviations to find temperatures.
Students in Dr. Iin’s focus area learn something new everyday. They discuss not only local agriculture, but agriculture and business in different cultures around the world. They also learn many different cultural traditions throughout the world, such as traditional dances. Scholars engage in many hands-on things such as testing soil and taking trips to the arboretum.
