THE SCHOLARS' SCOOP

The Flair of the College Fair

The Governor’s Scholars are college ready, but we don’t exactly feel ready. There are many emotions associated with choosing our future college, the most common is frustration.

There are thousands of colleges to choose from, but here at the Murray Campus a college fair was hosted for us on July 23rd to help narrow down the options.

There were large colleges like the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville. There were also many small colleges like the University of the Cumberlands and Midway University.

Additionally the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) also had a table with information about the Work Ready Scholarship and other general financial advice. Each college represented was ready with information, contact information forms, and even pens and other merchandise such as stickers.

As a scholar, still unsure over what college I want to attend, going to this fair has made me consider colleges I never thought of. Every ambassador provided an explanation of what their college had to offer me and answered my questions quickly. I was surprised at how many colleges had some form of an engineering program and study abroad opportunities that I wish to do when I attend in 2025.

All the colleges offered scholarships, of varied amounts, to Governor’s Scholar alumni on top of competitive and academic scholarships.

This fair, like most of the program, was a great experience that made many of us think deeper about our options for the future.
