On July 9th, 2024, students in Scott Takacs Business, Accounting, & Entrepreneurship class enjoyed an intense game of Monopoly to learn the evils of fraud and how to handle cash control. The students were divided up in teams with different jobs within the game. Some teams were given direction to play monopoly the traditional way. This was by purchasing properties, hotels, paying rent honestly, and more. Others played the “criminal” and stole money from the bank, causing irregularities in the economy.

Incorporating a fun game into a lifelong lesson was an excellent teaching strategy to teach scholars about fraud. Scholars took the game intensely and often questioned other scholars’ funds. Some teams were forced to file for bankruptcy or merge with other scholars. When asking scholars about their focus area, one replied with, “Scott’s class is always interesting as he finds fascinating ways to teach.”

In conclusion, after observing Scott’s Business, Accounting & Entrepreneurship Focus Area, I saw how students can learn about real life problems through “silly games”. Studies do not always have to be lectures or text book readings, and Scott’s class displays that well!
