GSP Jam Band to Perform at Showcase

The GSP Jam Band welcomes all musicians! Led by the RA Ben, this band has guitar players, a bass player, a pianist, some percussion, a singer, and even a trombone. Everyone is welcome to attend Jam Band, even if you go to only one meeting. Together, this band jams out every Saturday for an hour and a half, using songs such as Sweet Home Alabama or scales like the blues scales as blueprints.

When jamming, the players always have an opportunity to go solo. This is usually off the top of their head. Taking your shot at soloing is encouraged, but no one is forced into doing one.

Most people brought their own instruments, but if you didn’t, or if you want to play a different instrument, Ben makes sure to bring some to each jam session, such as a guitar, slide whistle, kazoo, and a set of harmonicas. One case of this is when the trombone player switches it up and plays harmonica on a song where it fits better than a trombone, like on Take Me Home, Country Road. The kazoo can be played by most members of the band even while they’re playing their main instrument.

If you want to hear the Jam Band perform, then you’re in luck! As the Jam Band plans to perform at the final (group) showcase. The pieces they’ve been practicing for showcase are Take Me Home, Country Road, and Don’t Stop Believin’. Judging by their current progress on each song, both will be performed. While the performances will likely have less improvisational solos compared to the practices, the overall song will be intact for the whole of GSP to enjoy. Each member has been working hard and the members of the group have been learning how to balance with each other when playing.

Go to Group Showcase and check them out! Or else… you’ll get office hours.
