Many communities across the country celebrate the fourth of July with things such as fireworks, parades and unique traditions. The city of Murray is no different. Their unique tradition, though, is a marching kazoo band. The participants of this important tradition were our very own governor’s scholars. They marched through the city of Murray with their obnoxiously-colored kazoos to the tune of You’re a Grand Ol’ Flag and My Old Kentucky Home.

Murray, like many other communities, has a large parade surrounding this marching band. Throughout the parade there were floats filled with children and adults all tossing candy across the street for many to enjoy.
Floats represented every walk of life in Murray from horses and tractors to large garbage and fire trucks. Everyone was blaring sirens and honking horns, getting the crowd excited and participating. Some of the trucks didn’t just throw candy, there were many other projectiles flying through the air. Sometimes it was frisbees or fans. Other times it was squishy cows.
Even with the heat beating down on the town, most of the city was still in attendance; families lined the street, kids scurried around, and everyone cheered. While the humidity was suffocating, the parade still went on with a large patriotic spirit stronger than the heat or humidity could ever dare to stop.
