Led by Brenna Sherrill, the Film Studies focus area creates an exciting and engaging environment. The class has learned about various aspects of film including, genre, lighting, cinematography, and characterization. Upon my arrival several costumes and props were being pulled out of what can only be described as a Mary Poppins bag. From cowboy hats and monk costumes to bonnets and bandanas, these scholars had anything they could wish for to create a film of their own.
They divided into groups that they chose themselves and had complete creative freedom over their films. One of the groups explained that they were making a western film and brainstorming scenes down to the last line. Other groups were aiming for comedies or the horror genre. One team of scholars had already begun filming their first scene in costume, while another group was finding music to use in theirs.

Several of the scholars in Brenna’s class went to see at least one of the movies in the classic film series. They had conversations about Rocky, Do The Right Thing, and Singin’ in The Rain. If any class is looking forward to seeing how the films turn out, Brenna and her students are sure to be among the most excited to see their creations come to life.
