As scholars met outside Franklin Hall to prepare for the Olympics, the excitement was clear as day.
Scholars gathered with their Leadership Seminar to paint faces, chant, and get group photos before the event began. Each team of scholars chose their own unique theme filling the crowd with bright and unique colors. When the time came, the teams headed to the IM Field to begin. The field was covered with stations with each one led by a RA. Games were tests of both physical and mental strength.
Two teams met at each station. While scholars were reminded there was no real winner, they immediately started competing. Some of the games included: Dizzy Bat, GSP Trivia, Ships and Sailors, and Caveman Poetry. As groups completed the challenges, they showed not just their skills as individuals but as a team.
Beyond the competition between individuals many events required exercises in teamwork, such as Human Machine or the Sponge Relay. These events brought scholars together not only as a team but as a community. Some teams acted out their machines better and others got more wet in the sponge relay at the end of the events everyone met up at the rest station to cool down with a popsicle and celebrate.
Scholars grew not only closer to their own teams but also to everyone in the community. Despite light trash talk, and a large competitive atmosphere, they came together for a Sunday night to remember.
